Black Arts, Cultural Fest at Empire State Plaza

Black Arts and Cultural Festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, noon to 7 p.m. at the Empire State Plaza, Albany.

The free event will feature “The Prince of Sophisticated Soul” Will Downing. Special guests include Season 4 Sunday Best winner Amber Bullock, jazz flutist Ragan Whiteside and multi-cultural ensemble One World Tribe.

Celebrate the diverse history and culture of the African Diaspora with six New Destination areas (Beauty sponsored by Austin’s School of Spa Technology; Health and Wellness sponsored by MVP; Education sponsored by University of Albany; Career sponsored by the Department of Labor; Finance sponsored by Sunmark Federal Credit Union;  and Heritage sponsored by Homes and Community Renewal).

An expanded kids’ zone, Scratch Academy, Austin’s Barbershop battle, exhibit and live painting featuring artists of the Albany Center Gallery, exhibits, activities, valuable information and more.

Performance Schedule is noon, Opening Ceremony;
12:45 p.m.,Plaza Lites Talent Competition Winners;
1:30 p.m., Amber Bullock;
3  p.m., Ragan Whiteside;
4:30 p m., One World Tribe;
6 p.m., Will Downing.

Due to Plaza construction, events will be held at the North end of the Plaza. Seating will not be available. Bring a lawn chair. Rain location is at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.
