Colonie band presents holiday concert
The 19th annual Holiday Concert presented by the Memorial Concert Band of Colonie will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m., at the Mark Cornell Auditorium of Colonie Central High School, off Sand Creek Road, Colonie.
The free concert will start with “Nabucco” by opera composer Giuseppe Verdi and pieces by Khachaturian, Carter, and Grainger. Holiday-themed music ranges from traditional selections, such as “Shepherd’s Dance” from Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti and “Candlelight Carol” by the famous British coral conductor John Rutter, to “A Home Alone Christmas” from the movie, “Home Alone,” and “Christmas a la Big Band.” Doug Dougherty is music director.
The band, under the joint sponsorship of the Town of Colonie, New York and the South Colonie Central School District, was formed by musicians in the area dedicated to the promotion of the best in music for the concert band. Under the direction of Henry Carr, a noted area conductor and musician, the band plays four free concerts a year. For information, visit
