Course prepares for Christmas Bird Count
Get ready for the National Audubon Society’s annual Christmas Bird Count! An introduction to the event will take place Saturday, Dec. 17, 9 to 10:30 a.m., at Schodack Island State Park, 1 Schodack Island Way, Schodack Landing.
The free, family-friendly program will teach beginner birders about the count’s history and importance. Search for winter bird species like bald eagles, great black-backed gull and other species.
After the count, participants can compare notes and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and coffee. Bring binoculars if you have them, wear sturdy shoes and dress warmly.
The program is being offered by Schodack Island State Park in partnership with the Audubon Society of the Capital Region.
Register by Wednesday, Dec. 14, by calling the park office, 732-0187. Visit http://www.friendsofschodackisland.org/.
