Disaster readiness class offered at AJCC
State residents can attend a free disaster preparedness class Thursday, Aug. 31, 9 to 11 a.m., at the Sidney Albert Jewish Community Center, 340 Whitehall Road, Albany, and learn to better respond to emergencies and disasters.
The class, open to all, will be presented by the New York National Guard troops, in cooperation with the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Registration is required; visit http://www.dhses.ny.gov/aware-prepare/nysprepare/.
Since the program’s launch in February 2014, troops have held more than 1,690 events statewide and taught over 108,000 citizens.
The event is part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s continuing Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program, which provides citizens with the knowledge and tools to prepare for emergencies and disasters, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.
