First Day Hikes scheduled at state parks
First Day Hikes are planned at state parks on Sunday, Jan. 1, to bring in 2017. Dress appropriately and bring snacks.

Peebles Island State Park, 10 a.m. Learn about the Native American presence on the island, view existing earthwork fortifications for the Continental Army encampment of 1777, and discover history of this strategic site. Call 732-0187.
Moreau Lake State Park. 10 a.m. Meet at the park office for an easy to moderate two-mile hike. Fees: $2, adults; $1, children younger than 12, and seniors older than 62. Call (518) 793-0511.
Olana State Historic Site, 10:30 a.m. Hike 1.5 miles of Lake Road and Crown Hill Carriage Drive and artist Frederick Church’s great masterpiece. Meet up at Wagon House Education Center (near lake). Call (518) 828-0135, Ext. 303. Register: http://www.olana.org/calendar/,
Saratoga Spa State Park, 11 a.m. One-hour tour to see architecture, geology and natural history. Call (518) 584-2000, Ext. 116.
Schodack Island State Park, 1 p.m. Five-mile hike to nad back from the Ice Chimney remains. Call (518) 732-0187.
Grafton Lakes State Park, 1 p.m. Snowshoe rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call (518) 279-1155.
