Garden tour, talk aid Spencertown Academy
Spencertown Academy Arts Center’s 11th annual Hidden Gardens Tour will take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at five houses in Chatham Center and Kinderhook Village.
The theme of the self-guided tour will be “Artful Landscapes: Ornamental and Edible Gardens.” Gardens range from grand to personal and intimate – from a country garden, to a minimalist deer-resistant landscape with views of the Catskills, to a designer’s cozy English-style garden..
On Saturday from 8:30 to 10 a.m., garden designer and chef Ellen Ecker Ogden will talk about edible gardens in an illustrated talk, The Art of Growing Food. Ogden is author of “The Complete Kitchen Garden,” “From the Cook’s Garden,” and “The Vermont Cheese Book.” Her newest book, “The Vermont Country Store Cookbook,” is coming out in September. A continental breakfast will be served.
Shoppers can buy food and enjoy the art exhibit, “Concrete & Clay: Works Inspired by the Garden.”
Tour and lecture tickets will be available on the day of the event, June 20, at both the Academy and Market on the Green.
Tickets are $30 each. Online ticket sales close Thursday, June 18, at 6 p.m.
The Twilight in the Garden cocktail party will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 19, at a historic private home in Chatham. Cost will be $80 each. Tickets can be purchased at the door, 55 Austerlitz St., Chatham, on the day of the event.
Proceeds will benefit the academy and its arts-in-education programs in local schools.
