Kayak run to raise funds for rare cancer

The fourth annual Kayaking 4 Meso will be presented from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 6 on the Hudson River, beginning in Admiral’s Marina in Stillwater and ending at the Halfmoon Lighthouse Park in Halfmoon.

The event was started by Mark Wells in 2011 because his daughter Linda is battling a rare form of mesothelioma. Three people took part that year. Organizers are hoping for 200 participants this year.

Registration will be $25. The one-way fundraising paddle will raise awareness of mesothelioma, the cancer affecting the membrane lining of the lungs and abdomen, and money raised will go to the
