Learn about maple syrup tubes and taps

Visitors can see how maple syrup is produced at an event at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 19,  starting in the  woodlot of the Dick and Shari Gibbs farm,  245 Hidley Road, Wynantskill.
Larry Skinner, who operates about 200 taps there, will show how sap is efficiently collected from trees using plastic tubing. Participants will walk through the woodlot with a New York Forest Owners Association forester and learn about woodlot management for maple sap production. Participants will then drive a mile to the sap house to see Skinner’s evaporator in operation.
The event is sponsored by the Capital District Forest Owners Association and the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance.
