Shindig! community dance series debuts
The DanceFlurry Organization has announced its newest event, a mix of music and community dance called Albany Shindig!, taking place from 7 to 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, with Jay Ungar and Molly Mason performing at the First Congregational Church, 405 Quail St., Albany.
Shindig! was created with support from Honest Weight Food Coop and Homespun Occasions to offer Capital Region residents an opportunity to gather and socialize, listen to music, and partake in simple, traditional “Roots” dances geared to all ages and types of participants.
Short concerts followed by simple community circle, square, longways dances (roots of contra dance) with live fiddle music. The event’s creator, Paul Rosenberg, calls it his most important project since starting the Flurry Festival in 1988.
On Friday, Jan. 15, 7 to 9:45 p.m., Albany Shindig! Quickstep will feature caller/musicians John Kirk and Trish Miller. Other dates are
Feb. 19, March 18, and April 15.
The suggested general admission donation is $7, $5 for DFO members, and $2 for children younger than 12. For more information, call Rosenberg at 482-9255, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit http://www.danceflurry.org/show_event.php?&id=35/.
