Sponsors, volunteers needed for vet wreaths
Every year, more than 1,000 fundraising groups across the nation volunteer time and skills to place wreaths at veterans’ graves at national cemeteries and memorials, through a Wreaths Across America effort. Volunteers and donations are needed to keep expanding the dream to cover all veterans’ graves with wreaths at the holidays.
The goal this year at the New York Gerald B. Solomon National Cemetery (NYGSNC) is to place wreaths at all 13,100 graves, exceeding last year’s placement of 2,000 wreaths there.
Sponsoring help from employers and businesses can be offered at NYGSNC.
Visit http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/. Click on ”sponsor locally” on right side of page. Scroll to “Find a location” and select ”New York.” A list of New York national cemeteries will appear. Scroll to the Gerald B. Solomon and click sponsor a wreath to be laid on a veteran’s grave.
Volunteers are needed to place wreaths at the New York Gerald B. Solomon National Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 12, following the Wreaths Across America ceremony taking place at noon.
For information, contact Lt. Col Anita Martin at firstname.lastname@example.org or 225-0442.
The deadline for sponsoring a wreath for this year is Monday, Nov. 30.
