Tree lighting, skating at Empire State Plaza

Two holiday events are planned this week at the Empire State Plaza, Albany.

Dec. 1 is opening day for the skating rink at the Empire State Plaza. Free skating is offered daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting. Closed for maintenance daily from 3 to 4 p.m. Rentals are $3 for children 12 and younger; $4 for adults. Hannaford sponsors free rentals on Fridays.

On Sunday, Dec. 3, 1 to 8 p.m., the Tree Lighting events will be held at the Empire State Plaza. Fireworks, open skating and performances, horse and carriage rides, Santa Claus visit, Taste NY holiday marketplace, Great Train Extravaganza, music by Moriah Formice of “The Voice,” The Zucchini Brothers (3 p.m. at the Egg),  The Rusty Pipes, TubaChristmas, and more.
