Varicose vain screenings offered in Saratoga

Free varicose vein screenings will be offered Monday, Dec. 11, 4 to 6 p.m., at the Spa Vein Center, Division of Saratoga Cardiology Associates, 6 Care Lane, Saratoga Springs.

Stephen Demsey, M.D., Spa Vein Center medical director, will provide the screenings which include a brief questionnaire and leg exam. Patients should wear shorts.

Varicose and venous insufficiency occur when valves within the veins malfunction. Vein disease may be a cosmetic concern for some patients, but for others, it can cause aching leg pain, cramping, burning and/or itching or “restless” legs that interfere with sleep or daily life. Venous insufficiency can lead to severe swelling, skin injury and chronic leg ulcers.
