Volunteer to be a Red Cross ombudsman
The American Red Cross, Northeastern Region, is offering a training program for persons interested in volunteering for its ombudsman program. The next course will be held five Fridays, beginning April 11 and continuing on April 25, May 2, 9 and 16.
The resident-focused advocacy program is for volunteers who will work with residents of nursing homes and adult care facilities to help resolve complaints. Training to become a certified ombudsman includes completion of 36 hours of classroom work and a commitment to spend two to four hours a week visiting residents to observe them in their facilities. Volunteers must be 21 years of age or older, with strong verbal and written communication skills as well as an interest to fulfill an advocate role.
For training information contact Edie Sennett-Jozwiak, regional ombudsman coordinator, phone 694-5114, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
