Yankee Doodle Band performs at Crailo
Crailo State Historic Site and Friends of Fort Crailo will present the Yankee Doodle Band on Thursday, July 9, at 7 p.m. in Crailo’s Riverside Park, 9 1/2 Riverside Ave., Rensselaer.
The event is free and music fans are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and a picnic dinner to enjoy patriotic songs at the riverfront park as the sun sets over the Hudson River.
Organized in 1928, the Yankee Doodle Band has played all over the country. Members range in age from their teens to their 90s and play a blend of Sousa marches, Broadway show tunes, popular hit songs and music from the movies.
Also, the second Discovery Day of the season will be held Sunday, July 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Crailo State Historic Site, the museum of the Colonial Dutch in the Hudson River Valley. The public is invited to attend.
Fur Trade Discovery Day will focus on the fur trade conducted between the Dutch and natives of the area. The trade was vitally important to the area and was the impetus for Dutch settlement in New Netherland.
